Hey hey hey! I think it’s time for another sporadic ‘news’ update on the stuff that’s been happening in the world of Unprepared lately. Think of these so called newsletters as the kind of stuff I’d tell you over a cup of tea. Admittedly, some items are more newsworthy than others, but let’s just dive on in…
Germs suck.
Yes. Germs suck. Let’s just say that the Little Mister has been truly initiated into his new day care lifestyle, by receiving a good old hit to the immune system. It’ll be good for him in the long run, but for now we’re all feeling the effects! Mr Unprepared had his bout of it. Then the Little Mister got sick again…and then I (the one who was too smug and thought she was invincible because mums don’t get a day off) decided to suffer from a chest infection right before I went on my much anticipated trip to Sydney. Luckily I was well enough to fly there and back, without much risk of infecting my fellow passengers, but I definitely felt a bit exhausted and rotten, which was a little disappointing (although I had an awesome time). I’m almost fully recovered now, but the night time cough really gives me the shits!
Sydney.
I love Sydney. Can you believe I had this view from the apartment we were staying in? Beautiful. I love seeing the harbour at all the different times of day, in all different kinds of light and weather. I’ve visited quite a few times and we have family and friends there now. My parents often travel there for work, so they know it inside out (with a little help from their GPS navigator). This trip was my early birthday treat. I had saved spending money with a discipline that I’m quite proud of, and I had many generous birthday donations from family.
Mum and I shopped up a storm during the day, and we saw some lovely people by night. I got to meet my dad’s cousin and her daughter for the first time, which was awesome. Then Mum and I went back to our apartment and googled stuff like ‘second cousins’ and what to call your distant relatives, because quite frankly it’s all a little confusing. Then we ended up down some kind of rabbit hole on the internet and it was all too much for our brains at that time of night haha.
We also saw some family friends who we’re guaranteed to have a good time with every time. It’s like you’ve never left. Those are good people to have in your life, I think.
I am also proud to announce that I ticked every single thing off my autumn/winter wardrobe checklist and I am so excited to have a great base to build on. I feel very accomplished! There’s an event coming up in a week or so and I can’t believe that I will actually be able to dress for the cooler weather without freaking out that I have the wrong shoes or the wrong jacket. Like I do ALL WINTER EVERY YEAR.
I think my time away was good for me and it was good for the Little Mister. It was a much needed break and it was nice to know that Mr Unprepared was having a blast with him. We face timed each day and sent photos. Technology is great for that. Except for the first night, where we’d got into Sydney much later than we’d hoped (try 5 hours or so after a delayed flight – a lot of time to lose when you only have four days – accounting for the time difference too). I turned my phone on when we landed and there was a video from the Little Mister of him saying in his little voice, “I love you so much. Goodnight. Have a nice nap.”
I kind of almost got sweaty eyes. I was so tired and I hadn’t had any good distractions to stop me from missing him too much yet!
We were so lucky to fly home on Monday morning. Right before the storm we’ve been seeing all over the news! Here’s a picture of the sky above Balmoral Beach on the Sunday…
Look at the difference in weather between taking off from Sydney and landing in Perth!
I had a great surprise when I got home…
No more nappies or pull ups!
While I was gone, Mr Unprepared helped the Little Mister to transition from training pull ups during outings and at night, to proper underwear all day and all night! Well, that’s a pleasant surprise! I am so proud of both of them!
We’ve got some pull ups in reserve for those exceptional occasions where some back up might be necessary, but we’re celebrating this milestone. Yesterday, the Little Mister wore jocks to day care for the first time and he had NO accidents. What a champ!
Now I look forward to the time when he doesn’t want my help to go to the toilet and insist on my presence. Now that will be true freedom haha.
Development spurts.
This month, the Little Mister had one of his famed developmental spurts. Usually this means a few weeks with a disruption in his sleep (which means a big one in ours), some anxiety, a lot of frustration (which means a lot of crying over hardly anything) and a lot of boundary testing. It’s a trying time! We seem to have rode it out and everything’s come back to something resembling normality. PHEW!
Can’t wait until the next one…NOT!
Let the treadmill search begin!
I was so lucky to come home from Sydney with a little moolah left over. I have decided that I want to put it to good use. People, I think it’s time for me to buy the treadmill I’ve wanted since forever! It’s not enough to just eat salad. I need to MOVE! And I need bad weather or child care issues to not be an excuse for not walking/running more! I think I’m ready.
I’ve been trawling gumtree (the online trading post) and I am hoping that some day very soon I will have something that’s not too old and abused, that is safe, has the basic features I’m wanting, and within my budget. Yippee.
Netflix.
Yep. I signed up for the first free month and now we’re hooked. I am in love and I am totally cheating on my DVR. It’s a love triangle of the ages. This mention of Netflix is definitely not sponsored, but I am just declaring my love. IT IS FREAKIN’ AWESOME. I am currently obsessed with Orange is the New Black.
This is what I look like when I watch it.
Heh. Crazy eyes.
So there you have it. A taste of what my life has been like lately!
For more, you can catch up on these blog posts for the month…
20 things you probably didn’t need to know about me. The title kind of says it all.
No mo’ lady mo’. I voice my fears about becoming a hairy beast later in life and I road test some at home waxing stuff from Veet.
Making friends with salad? I resolve to embrace salad more often. Sadly, I tried to live off salad while I was sick but it wasn’t quite enough. I am quite excited to get back on the salad wagon, though. YUM YUM!
Sydney is only a day away. My thoughts the day before I took my biggest yet child free getaway. Sure, it was only four days, but it was a big deal!
31. Yep. I turned 31 this week. Happy birthday to me!
