The other day we were in the car on the way to school drop off and the Little Mister surprised me with a couple of great questions.
“What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2018 and what do you hope for in 2019?”
I don’t know where this came from. Maybe it’s come up at school or he saw something written down somewhere (he’s getting pretty clever with his reading) or heard something on TV? I don’t know. Either way, I thought it was a great way to reflect.
I gave him my short answers because I’m shit at thinking too deeply when I haven’t slept well and because he’s 6 years old.
“I am excited to spend lots of time together as a family and to celebrate our first Christmas with the Little Miss (and eating everything I want to eat because I don’t have gestational diabetes anymore)! For 2019, I look forward to lots more fun adventures with family and friends.”
I asked him the same questions. He said he looked forward to eating everything he wants at Christmas too! Cheeky little bugger. Basically, he repeated my answers in his own words, but it’s sweet. Who knows how long it will be before he can’t think of anything worse than agreeing with me (he has his moments even now though haha).
I’ve been thinking about this since, and here are my slightly more thoughtful answers…
What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2018?
I am definitely looking forward to celebrating Christmas. I can’t wait to dress the Little Miss up in something embarrassing. I do look forward to eating whatever I want without thinking twice about it. I do love the family time. I am a little overwhelmed about making sure Santa does a good job for the Little Mister, but it’s all in good fun. I look forward to the lead up once the school holidays start. The fun events, creating special memories with the Little Mister, the social time with friends, the great weather, the festive vibe in the air. I didn’t get to make the most of it while I was pregnant last year because I wasn’t always very well. Touch wood, you’d think that with me no longer being pregnant, I might be able to do more this time! Yay!
I am excited to spend time in the pool with the Little Mister, to enrol the Little Miss in her first swimming lessons. I can’t wait to see him riding his bike around (he’s just figured out how to do it by himself and we are THRILLED at his newfound confidence) and to show him how to snorkel (he started to show an interest on our recent holiday)! I look forward to local four wheel driving adventures.
I am looking forward to finally sorting out all of our camping shit. OK, so I’m not looking forward to the actual sorting, but I am looking forward to the satisfaction that will come once I’m done with it!
After that, I look forward to spring cleaning properly (hopefully while it’s still spring)! I want to make over our dining table settings and spruce some ‘dead’ areas of our home up a bit. You know when some spots in your house just seem really lifeless and dull after a while? I need to bring life back to them!
I’m looking forward to consistently good weather!
What do you hope for in 2019?
I hope that in 2019 I will not only celebrate the Little Miss’ first birthday, but that I will also celebrate my first anniversary of being her mum and of being a mum of two. I hope that with that anniversary, will come a celebration of who I am as a whole person, not just as a mum (even though it’s the most amazing and important role of my life). I look forward to feeling a little more independent myself. To exercising more. To focusing on my health and self care a little more. Date time with Mr Unprepared. I hope to feel ready to pick up some more work (as long as it fits around me caring full time for the Little Miss).
I hope to remain socially active. I look forward to another great camping trip with friends. I hope I can show the Little Miss the Karri forests down south. I hope the Little Mister keeps growing in confidence and coordination.
I hope I’ll be inspired creatively.
I hope we can save more money than we did in 2018 haha.
I hope everyone in my family is healthy and happy in 2019.
So tell me – what do you look forward to for the rest of 2018 and what do you hope for next year?
