Kez Gets Physical 2019: Week 2

This week didn’t totally go to plan! If I could give it a key word or a theme, it would be PERIOD. Yep. I had an unexpected shark week event. It really wasn’t in my plans! It slowed me down a bit but I think I had a positive attitude and did my best! I should have known something was up the day before it arrived as I was SO HUNGRY haha.

So let me tell you about my second week of renewing my healthy living habits…

Yep. My period. Being a chick can be such a bummer.

I hate getting my period. I end up bloated for a few days and I can’t function very well on heavy flow day (I can’t trust that I won’t bleed all over everything – real talk – and I also suffer from some low blood pressure dips and don’t want to pass out or vom during a good cardio session). This meant that I was annoyed to not be losing weight and I also had to miss the gym on Thursday (I go Tuesdays and Thursdays). I felt like it set me back a few days.

I reminded myself that there are reasons vs excuses!

In the past I’ve had lots of excuses for not going to the gym or eating better. This time I had REASONS for not going to the gym. They were very legit and instead of just letting that REASON be an EXCUSE to do less, I made sure that I did more home work outs to try to compensate. While my gym membership might not be the most cost effective thing right now, at least my body still got what it needed!

I also could have used my period as an excuse to eat shitty foods, but this time it was just something I had to resist! I knew the REASON I felt like indulging but I didn’t let it be my EXCUSE for falling off the wagon. I just ate when I was hungry, but made sure I chose healthy options. Pretty proud of myself to be honest haha.

I lost 0.5kg

This is a healthy slow and steady loss, I think. I’ve lost a total of 1.3kg so far. There was a lot of fluctuation with my period arriving out of nowhere, but it just gave me a bit more pause for reflection on how the numbers on the scale aren’t the most important thing. As much as I’ve come a LONG way with my body positive attitudes, I do sometimes fall victim to focusing on the numbers more than I should.

Life happens, things fluctuate from week to week. That’s fine. The main thing is that I make healthy food choices most of the time and keep my exercise up. It’s a lifestyle thing and my body will catch up.

My body fat % reduced from 37% to 36.7% – that’s something!

Last week I wanted to improve on my 42,504 steps. I managed to do 44,286!

Progress! I hope I can beat that again this week. My ultimate goal is 70,000 in a week.

I drank a lot more water

I didn’t really have this as one of my initial goals, but I have been drinking a lot more water than I was before I started this health kick (up the butt). I’m pretty pleased with myself as I was really struggling to remember to hydrate! Something about thinking I should really have a glass of water and then the Little Miss wanted some water and then she wanted a snack so I got her a snack and then some other crisis would happen and then an hour later I’d think, oh yeah. I was going to pour myself a glass of water!

I’ve found my big gym bottle (a birthday gift from a clever friend) to be very useful! I can leave it anywhere and sip on it until it’s empty. Not so many steps to remember haha.

I am no ‘quick results’ shredder as you can see, but I think that’s the point. I want to show myself (and you other awesome but normal people) that it’s possible. You don’t have to be some crazy, obsessed super hero looks-hot-on-Insta type to get started and make simple changes!
