I have to say, week 12 of 2019 wasn’t much better than weeks 10 and 11. I was starting to think that maybe this year isn’t turning out as amazing as I’d hoped. Seeing every single day broken down in writing can be confronting! Which makes me wonder why we are always so obsessed with categorising a whole calendar year as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. It’s kind of meaningless if you think about it! I’ve decided to live my life as best I can and maybe the highlights and lowlights will just reveal themselves to me by the 31st of December, but for now life is just life and we all…

Terribly Overtired Twos.
It’s the afternoon of Mother’s Day and the Little Mister is spent. It has been a few trying weeks of sleepless nights (for everybody) and a weekend filled with lunch time family engagements (read: right over the usual nap time). We’ve reached that point where the Little Mister has become a floppy, whiney mess. It’s actually quite funny. Yes. Funny. Maybe I have a twisted sense of humour (every parent needs one) or maybe I’ve just become delirious with fatigue, but it’s funny. Slapstick comedy at its best. The Little Mister has been lurching all around the house wearing a pathetically sad look on his face. He’ll flop onto the…

That. One. Last. Tooth.
image Right now my arch nemesis in life is the Little Mister’s one last molar. It has haunted me for weeks. Taunting us. Causing pain to my child (it really knows how to hit where it hurts by getting to the one I love). It is the worst tooth of all the teeth. ALL OF THEM. And things got pretty hairy back in the baby days, let me tell you. My arch nemesis also knows that sleep deprivation is the best torture. Nights have been spent sitting up with an anxious Little Mister. Weathering the pain together. It’s been a long time between new teeth and it’s been strange reacquainting…

Tips for travelling WITHOUT children.
pic We-ell…I figure there are so many great, informative websites and blogs dedicated to travelling with babies and toddlers that perhaps there is a niche in the market for advice about travelling without children too. Or…people probably just call that ‘travelling’. Yeah, I’m never going to be an innovative entrepreneur (I couldn’t even spell it without spell check). I’m especially not going to be a “mummypreneur” because that just sounds awful and is just a tad condescending. An entrepreneur is an entrepreneur full stop – no need for trendy catch phrases. No-one calls a man a “daddypreneur”. Wow, I’m tired. When I’m tired, I get a little bit off track.…

Tired?
It’s only Tuesday, but I’m quite exhausted. Usually this kind of fatigue doesn’t hit me until at least Thursday, when I grab my husband by his imaginary lapels and gasp “TGIFT” – Thank God It’s Friday…Tomorrow as he walks in the door after work. The last couple of mornings my day has started at roughly STUPIDF*CKINGam (the time that Mr Unprepared gets up for work – not a coincidence AT ALL). I can usually handle this a couple of days a week (the rest I am tired enough to sleep through my husband’s early morning routine), but sometimes it’s all a bit much and I start to feel like a…

Awake is the new sleep. Which is the new awake. And so on.
pic At 19 months of age, the Little Mister has decided that sleep isn’t so cool anymore. While he’s always generally been a great sleeper, we have been through our share of regressions and teething issues! Throw in the sniffles a few times and it’s fun times for everyone! Whoever tells you that you become an expert at cry analysis is an idiot (and if I ever tried that on you in the past, let’s just put it down to naivety)! Did you know that toddlers are very inventive? Well, they are. They’re like Apple – always creating new versions of old cries so you have to pay more…

Soundtrack for parents of toddlers.
Pic I think every moment of a person’s life needs a soundtrack that reflects what’s happening at that time. I seriously love the idea that life is a movie (not so much a nice, tidy Hollywood film…maybe more of an artsy foreign film with subtitles that you can’t keep up with and a plot that doesn’t seem to make any sense until the end). I listened to Nirvana, Silverchair, Rage Against the Machine and Hole when I was young and angst filled in the 90s. I became a bit of a rebel with a love for four chord wonder punk rock songs later in high school (there’s nothing like a…

The importance of me-time.
Pic Life can get pretty hectic these days (and I’m not just talking about the Christmas silly season). Everything’s a fine balance (where possible). Gotta have quality mum and bub time, every day getting sh*t done (usually with toddler in tow) time, couple time, being with friends and family time, me-time for the husband and me-time for the wife lady (that’s me). I think you can guess which items usually get left off the list (hint: it’s not the mum and bub time one or the getting sh*t done one). Sometimes achieving this balance can seem easy. The social opportunities come rolling in, things just seem to fit in with…

Dear 2am…get outta my life.
Pic Dear 2am, I see we’ve met again and I can’t say it’s a pleasure. I just wish you’d grow up. I’ve moved on. Why can’t you? We used to have so much fun dancing together in ‘da’ club, lining up at the 24 hour McDonalds drive through after an evening of dancing, sitting in a beach carpark – you, me, a best friend and a meaningful late night chat. I didn’t even mind you too much when you signalled a wake up call so I could tend to the Little Mister who needed a late night feed. I’d hear him crying, I would see that you had arrived…

We had weather. We never have “weather”.
Pic So, we’ve had a recent bout of stormy weather in my corner of the world the last week or so. In other parts of the country, hell even in other countries, this would just be something that I imagine you hardy people would just take in your stride. However, where I live this kind of weather (or any weather at all) is just unheard of and we all lose our shit minds. We like to think that we live in an eternal summer where all we need are shorts, tee-shirts and a bit of sunscreen to protect us from the elements all year round. As soon as it rains,…
