I’ve been wanting to write about 2020. A year in review. A wrap up of the year that was. Some reflections. It’s hard! I mean, how do you talk about a year that felt like a decade’s worth of stuff was squished into it? It’s definitely been a unique year and one we will never forget (even if we wanted to). It is one of those years that will go down in history. Our grandchildren will be learning about it. I cannot begin to imagine what that will be like for them (they might be bored of our old people stories about the time we couldn’t get toilet paper). So…

What I’m looking forward to for the rest of 2018 & what I hope for in 2019.
The other day we were in the car on the way to school drop off and the Little Mister surprised me with a couple of great questions. “What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2018 and what do you hope for in 2019?” I don’t know where this came from. Maybe it’s come up at school or he saw something written down somewhere (he’s getting pretty clever with his reading) or heard something on TV? I don’t know. Either way, I thought it was a great way to reflect. I gave him my short answers because I’m shit at thinking too deeply when I haven’t slept well…

The reasons camping sucks (and why I wouldn’t change a thing about it).
It’s the middle of the night and I’m wide awake in my quiet, dark house. It’s our first night at home in two weeks after a camping trip away. It’s weird. The thing about camping is that it’s hard work sometimes. There’s no electricity. There’s no wifi. Sometimes there’s not even any mobile phone reception. Do you know how hard it was to watch a short video clip someone sent me or to get a second to watch some Instagram stories?? It was hard to keep our phones charged. We had to rely on the car battery or the battery we were using to power the fridge. The Engel fridge…

Who the hell goes camping with a baby? Us. We do.
Holy shit. We’re doing it. We’re going camping soon. For the first time in 2 years! And the first time with an 8 month old baby (the Little Mister was 14 months old the first time we took him). We are finally starting to feel like we might just somehow, miraculously pull this off. We’ve bought some new supplies, made a crapload of lists and it’s been very exciting chatting with our friends about it (there’s going to be a massive group of us)! It could not be coming at a better time and I am thanking past Kez (and our friends who invited us) for this big time! At…

6 months with the Little Miss.
Today, the Little Miss turns 6 months old. I’ve been her mum for half a year. I cannot decide if time has absolutely flown by or whether it’s gone by painfully slowly. I think there’s a saying? Something about the days being long but the months/years being short? I think it’s that. I wanted to write about the both of us at this milestone, so here goes… The Little Miss Oh, she is so gorgeous. I am absolutely, 100% biased of course. She’s had her challenging moments (as all babies do), but I see a determined little person who takes life a little seriously. But that does not mean she…

{From the Vault} We can’t control everything and I’m OK with that.
I wrote this post in 2014 and it sat in my drafts folder until now – the Little Mister was 2 years old. The first sentence kind of makes me laugh because I know it wasn’t always that easy (still isn’t!), but I still agree that we need to shake off the pressure we are made to feel because we can’t control everything. Life is messy. Kids will do what they will do – they’re their own crazy little people. Especially toddlers! We can provide them with the best environment to grow and thrive but sometimes it doesn’t quite go to plan. That doesn’t mean we’ve done a bad job x I…

Back to School anxiety: mine, not his.
It’s January. That time when it sinks in that the school holidays are not as long as you thought they were and you feel that downward slide back to reality. Another school year, filled with trying to remember stuff and being on time for drop offs and pick ups and SO MANY LUNCHES to be made. I am looking forward to the Little Mister attending pre-primary full time. I imagine the first few weeks will be full of exhausted after school meltdowns, but I am excited to be able to spread my work hours out over the week more evenly and feel a lot more productive. The thing is, I…

Taking Stock: January 2017.
Wow. You guys. We made it through 2016 and out the other side! It was a crazy year for me. Hard work, emotionally. And physically too. I would be lying if I said I’m not hoping that 2017 will be a little easier. Even just a little. I’m kind of tired, y’know? But I did learn so much about myself. I have definitely grown (2016’s manure was definitely a great fertiliser haha) and I think that’s what life’s about. We don’t always get what we want, but we get the lessons we need to learn. I would just like a less jam packed curriculum in the school of 2017, please!…

Taking Stock: September 2016 edition.
Yes. It’s officially spring (even if the weather hasn’t been notified yet)! I’ve really needed it to be spring. Winter felt like it went on forever this year. We apparently just had our coldest August in a couple of decades (don’t quote me on that – I haven’t fully fact checked)! I believe it. Every couple of months I like to take stock and capture where I’m at in a particular moment. It’s been really interesting to read back and remember the things I was doing/feeling when I last posted. Here goes! Currently… Making: Lots of snot. Ha. What an opener. But really. Enough with the winter illnesses. It’s spring…

Taking Stock: March 2016
So I’ve decided that it’s a good time to ‘take stock’ again. I do like the idea of capturing a snapshot of where I’m at throughout the year. Here’s what I’m currently… Making : No real plans for the weekend. I mean, I’ll be open to spontaneous fun if the opportunities arise, but I am really enjoying the fact that it’s a long weekend and there is currently nothing super important on our plate. Nothing we HAVE to do. Everything will be on our terms. That’s kind of lovely. Cooking : I hope I will be at some point. I do like to get my ‘bake’ on. That sounds drug related, but…
