How to stay (relatively) sane on the internet.

image The internet can be an amazing forum/resource for parents (especially those of us who are new to the game), because it can offer us support groups online, and gives us a connection to other people, even when we’re stuck at home feeling a little isolated. On the flip side, it can be a nightmare! There is information out there that is very dubious. There are people everywhere who think that having an opinion and a keyboard qualifies them to insult, degrade and fight (dirty ugly fighting) with those who have a different opinion and a keyboard too. There is a flood of articles thrown at us daily on how…

    In my cup: Some gratitude.

I’ve decided to take part in Fat Mum Slim’s Photo a Day challenge (click the link for all the information you might need if you’d like to take part too) for the month of September. I’m also going to use the daily prompts to inspire me to blog more! I’ll let you know each time I write a new post, by updating my Facebook page (as I do any time I update my blog – great way to not miss a thing) and you might see the pics on my Instagram too (#fmsphotoaday).    About the photo: OK, so it’s not a cup. It’s a glass. It’s how I start my day.…

Why I Write Blog-hop (better late than never)!

image About a month ago, I was approached by Seamus of Dadinating the Country Side to take part in a blog-hop with the theme of ‘Why I Write’. He was so kind and patient as we emailed back and forth, with me wondering if I’d already exhausted that topic in a post I’d written a little while back…on the topic of Why I Write! He reassured me that it was a little different and with that, my arm was twisted (wasn’t going to take much convincing to be honest). I love reading his blog because it is filled with honesty and humour, it gives a dad’s (and a good one at…

What’s a Half Liebster Award? It’s awesome. That’s what it is.

I’ve seen these awards go around quite a lot since 2010 when they began circulating. It’s a great way to get to know other bloggers and to show our appreciation for them. I don’t want to brag, but I have received them in different formats a handful of times and each time has made me feel so special! The most recent version of the Liebster Award often involves a long and intricate number of questions to be answered, new questions to be created and the nomination of more bloggers than you can poke a stick at! I really loved receiving a ‘half’ Liebster award from Bec over at Seeing the…

    Why I write.

Yep. It’s come to this. I am going to write about writing. You could blame my writer’s block for this desperate attempt, but I thought I’d share what it feels like to be a writer at heart. To be passionate about writing.  image I am not a professional writer (that’s been more my talented brother’s job). I have no real qualifications in writing (other than the fact that I pumped out essay after essay at uni haha). I just love to do it. So I call myself a ‘writer at heart’ because it best describes my passion. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a writer at heart.…

Facebook your face off. I don’t care.

image You know what’s getting really old lately? Well, I have my ranty pants on and I’m about to tell you (lucky you). Articles/blog posts/rants about what people are doing that is soooooo annoying on Facebook. Usually written in list form, the writer goes on about each thing that offends them personally about Facebook users and decides what everyone else should like or not like too. Which I find hilarious when they’re busy telling people off for their self centred status updates. I am not aiming this post at anyone in particular. I’m just noticing a trend. Maybe this blog post in itself is one big stinking pile of…

Facebook: I love it but sometimes I don’t.

pic Facebook. It’s just this little social networking site. Don’t know if you’ve heard of it? It’s a place where your worlds collide. You can see into the lives of almost everyone you’ve ever (or even ‘never’) met, on a daily (or several times daily – let’s be honest) basis. This can be fun. It can be voyeuristic in the kind of way where someone has actually invited you to stalk them so it kind of makes it OK. Used wisely, it is a great way to connect with people instantaneously and to share your lives with those who may not always be geographically close to you. I recently…

    Blog love.

pic When I’m not working on my blog, I’m most certainly p*ssing about on Twitter or Facebook. No wait, that’s not right. I mean, it’s mostly true, but it’s not what I am trying to say today… I really really enjoy reading other people’s blogs. I find them inspiring and I just love the privilege of having a sneak peek into somebody else’s life. I love to see how another person writes, what their world looks like to them, and if I can get a laugh or a cry out of something then I’m hooked. Bonus points if I can relate and feel like I’m sharing someone’s experience. I thought…

    Hump Day Hell Yeahs.

It’s Wednesday. Hump day. I’ve decided that while conquering Monday-itis with great inspirational posts (well they inspire me because I wrote them for me at least haha), it’s hump day that really requires a self inflicted kick up the backside. By then I know if I’m in the right mindset or not. By Wednesday, I know if I’m being a Negative Nancy or a Positive Peggy. So I dub today’s (and any subsequent) posts Hump Day Hell Yeahs. Because all the other corny inspirational days are taken. Trust me. I googled that sh*t. There’s Motivational Monday, Midweek Motivation, every variation of TGI Friday (TFIF included). So anyway, enough of my…

    Who’s your daddy…blogger?

Pic Look, I still have trouble admitting this to myself, but if you were to label me as a blogger, I would definitely be a “mummy” blogger these days. I am a mummy who blogs. About being a mummy. I try to think of other things to blog about, but being the biggest job I’ve ever undertaken, all the “mummy” stuff seems to dominate! I guess I’m reluctant to label myself (or be labelled) because I worry that I’ll just be one of the million bajillion parents out there who is trying to make something of themselves in the blogosphere (is “blogosphere” a naff thing to say?) and it’s not…
