I have an idea…

Hey…it’s me. I keep accidentally paying to keep this domain name and for this website to be hosted. Every year I just hang in there even though I don’t really use it. Part of that is because life has been busy or I’ve been in survival mode (ie a vegetable in my downtime or privately journalling to stay sane) and I just haven’t been able to prioritise creative pursuits. I realise now that having a creative mind is not easy to balance with being a working parent. I have to prioritise family time, sleep and if I get a good idea, I lose interest in it by the time I can create the content. Same goes for social media. I am such an ideas girlie when it comes to great sketches or creative ideas for reels or TikTok vids, but I don’t often have the energy to put into doing the actual…doing. Can I figure out how to get someone to pay me for coming up with the ideas while they do all the work? Or am I supposed to pay them? Never mind haha. Just posting a photo on my Insta grid can feel like a big creative project these days – bonus points if I can even think of a caption at all, with my melted brain!

Anyway, I realise after so many chats with a handful of my closest friends that we are always talking to each other about what shows we’re watching on streaming services. Like which are the best dramas or docos. We will tell each other what we’ve watched and then have little DM chats about it. Thanks to some of my friends, I know about shows I probably wouldn’t have found by myself or wouldn’t have watched because I didn’t realise it would be that good. And when I say ‘good’, it doesn’t have to be a cinematic masterpiece. It can be trashy as hell. Or terribly produced but just a wild story. Just something that gets our attention for better or worse! There’s stuff that is legitimately SO GOOD and then there’s the deliciousness of stuff that is so bad it’s good!

I thought maybe I could post here a batch at a time about what I’ve been watching, including all the details I would want to know if I was deciding whether to watch or not. Then I can share the link with my friends for when they want some recommendations! May as well use this bloody website for something! I just paid for another year of it! Oops!

[Note: I have been trying to make historical posts into books to keep in hard copy at home – there’s websites that help with that – so that I can eventually let go of this site while remembering the stuff I’ve documented from my life, but I have a long way to go and they aren’t cheap to make]

I once heard an influencer say that they think it’s smart to keep a website domain, because social media can change, become unstable or untrustworthy (don’t get me started on the billionaires who run these things). At least you will always have a space to express yourself and communicate with followers, should everything else go to shit. Unless the websites go to shit…well, then I give up haha.

So while I’m not a professional right now (never say never LOL), I shall pretend that’s why I am still here!

I know I could use some sort of subscription model to share my thoughts and reccos, so I could figure out how to monetise later, but I am honestly too lazy to figure out how to sort my own taxes if I had to use an ABN again. Plus, my friends don’t need to be digging in their email inboxes for this (*thinks about the 12,000 emails I have definitely not read in my gmail account*). I shall maintain the right for everyone to be lazy, not have to spend any extra time logging into anything and click a link they find in my Instagram stories or bio. Only when they want to. Or have time.

All 5 of them/you 😝

Let me know what you think – are you in? x

  1. I am so in!

I am very keen to read about what media you’ve been consuming.

Also… am I also paying for a website I don’t use(due for renewal next month, and with grand ideas of how to use it so I keep it there for that…)? 🤫
