    My baby is turning 1.

“Aw how old is she? About 8 months?” asked the young looking check out operator at the local Woolies. “She’s almost 1!” I said, thinking it was cute that he’d had a stab at it anyway.“I’ve got a 21 month old and when she was little we were always wishing for her to get older so it would get easier, but now she’s up and into everything!”Ah, no wonder my 11 month old looked so young to him. Anyone younger than his lively toddler probably seemed so little and a distant memory to him now! I said, “Yeah. We look back with rose coloured glasses, don’t we? Those days you…

Things I’d like to do in 2019.

I know. Nobody’s finished their Christmas day leftovers yet, but I am already excited about all the possibilities that the promise of a new year brings. I know there are a lot of 1st of January grinches out there and I do think your feelings about new year hype are valid – there’s so much pressure to kick goals just because the calendar has ticked over when your life may have other timing. There are probably some statistics that say that nobody ever keeps their resolutions past the 3rd of January (or something haha). It does seem more realistic to begin the new year/new me vibe in February (especially when…

What I’m looking forward to for the rest of 2018 & what I hope for in 2019.

The other day we were in the car on the way to school drop off and the Little Mister surprised me with a couple of great questions. “What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2018 and what do you hope for in 2019?” I don’t know where this came from. Maybe it’s come up at school or he saw something written down somewhere (he’s getting pretty clever with his reading) or heard something on TV? I don’t know. Either way, I thought it was a great way to reflect. I gave him my short answers because I’m shit at thinking too deeply when I haven’t slept well…

6 months with the Little Miss.

Today, the Little Miss turns 6 months old. I’ve been her mum for half a year. I cannot decide if time has absolutely flown by or whether it’s gone by painfully slowly. I think there’s a saying? Something about the days being long but the months/years being short? I think it’s that. I wanted to write about the both of us at this milestone, so here goes… The Little Miss Oh, she is so gorgeous. I am absolutely, 100% biased of course. She’s had her challenging moments (as all babies do), but I see a determined little person who takes life a little seriously. But that does not mean she…

2 weeks post partum: some thoughts.

It’s been two weeks since we met the Little Miss. It’s safe to say we are totally in love. She’s growing bit by bit but I still can’t get over the fact that she is still too small for 0000 (newborn) sized clothes! While I want her to thrive and grow, I must admit her tiny size is bloody adorable. She is so good and staring at her is my new favourite hobby (coming in at a close second to holding her – although she thinks of me as a big milk machine and it makes me a little jealous of her father and his useless chest region because he…

2018: Things I’m looking forward to.

I am so excited to ring in 2018. January/February means a new baby to hold and to love on the outside of my body. The completion of my little family. It will be a moment that has been dreamed of and yearned for my whole life. We’ve been through so much to get to that place. It will be the realisation of so many hopes and the fruition of so many challenging situations we’ve been through. It will mean the end of this pregnancy. A pregnancy that I have been so grateful for, but have struggled with. I hope my baby will be happy and healthy. I hope my family…

    2017: What a year.

It’s December (in case you hadn’t noticed haha) and we are fast approaching Christmas (yay!) and the beginning of a new year! People are starting to reflect on the year they’ve had so far. How has 2017 treated us? For some people it was a dumpster fire of epic proportions. Some years just suck. I totally get that. That’s how 2015/2016 felt to me a lot of the time. That’s why it’s been such a relief to be able to proclaim that 2017 has been hard work, but rewarding. A hard year is so much easier to take when there’s a reward – something that makes it so worth it,…

It’s December, so please excuse me but OMFG CHRISTMAS TIME.

I have made no secret of it but I freakin’ love Christmas time. Sometimes people try to mess it up with their grinchy ways, but even that has never stopped me from being as enthusiastic as fuck. I love the quality time with the Little Mister – the novelty of school holidays hasn’t worn off yet and there’s so much fun stuff to do. I love giving myself permission to do all of the festive things the moment the 1st of December ticks over! None of this ‘right after Halloween’ shit over here. I am the kind of person who thinks it’s more special to wait until December – not…
